I moved here a year and half ago, be careful with your money. they will take you to anywhere you wish to go, help you !!!!! but what they want is for yoiu to buy something and you get told one price, but what is really happening is they will take what they call commision.
They consider that foreigners are stupid, and want horizontal pleasures. Female tourists beware especially.
Don't be fooled by hospitality, they just want to get in your p@*nts and wallets.

I lived in egypt 7 months in 2004, went there last year and i am going in july.
It's very hot in the summer so bring light cotton shirts and i always wore light khaki pants. I wouldnt wear shorts unless you want everyone to stare. Drink lots of bottled water, i didnt drink enough at first and got pretty sick from the heat.
You should probably keep some Immodium with you in case you eat something that does upset your stomach, or you can walk into a pharmacy there and ask for Immodium. Also if you are taking a backpack or purse out with you when you visit sites you might want to keep a little bit of toilet paper with you because some places dont have it.
If you visit the pyramids and you want to go inside the pyramid it does cost extra. Also at the Cairo museum it cost extra to go into the mummy room....but its worth it.
If you go to Khan el-Khalili souk try to barter. They will ask for more because lots of foreigners shop there.
Keep you money in your front pocket also. Most people there are honest, but some might try and take your money.
Egypt has many western restaurants too like Mcdonalds, pizza hut, kfc.....and most every one we have here. You should also try egyptian food, its great.
I am sure you will love Egypt. I hope you have a great trip and try and stay cool! Dont forget sunblock and a camera

I went to Egypt in Aug but the weather would be very similar. Be careful of people on the streets begging for money. If you get your wallet out they may try and grab the money, so if you are going to give people money then keep some in a pocket separate.

You will need to drink a lot of water, make sure you don't drink Egyptian water, eat fish, salad or drinks with ice, because that will make you ill.

I am sure you will have an amazing time, its an amazing place to go!

yes just a few times (about 20) where are you going
and what do you want to know.
first inoculations
the usual tetanus diphtheria, polio and TB but also typhoid and hep a or b the one that is not transferred by sex. i never remember which it is. You do not need malaria unless you are going to the oases. but any doctors surgery or chemist can advise you the same. have fun. all of these are only advised none are compulsory.
visas. buy yours on the way in you need at least 6 months on your passport to get in and then pay around £10 in English money to pay for your visa on entry depends on exchange rate but you must pay in your currency not Egyptian. unless you going to Sinai peninsula then you dont need a visa unless you going out of peninsular for day trip.

Exchange money in egypt take only little with you better rate out there and no fees. there are banks in the bigger hotels and in high streets. cheapest in luxor and aswan cairo is little more expensive and sharm is like england.
Remember tipping is expected most egyptians earn very little between 30 and 300(high wage) english a month. they are expected to look after the whole extended family with this. take taxis they are very cheap and always barter for the price in egyptian pounds not english you can ususally get an idea of prices for your hotel.
barter for all your shopping.
if you want to phone home yu can buy an eygtian holiday sim card form a vodaphone shop for about £3 and top up cards after that for between £1 and £10 english much cheaper than using your english card.
let me know where you are going and i will give you some ideas of what there is to see.and answer any other questions it is a great place i love it relax and have fun. the people are friendly but yes watch your money, they wont normally steal but feel quite justified in trying to get high prices when selling to you
