I wasn't on Synthoid, but I was on another T4 med and I lost no weight on it. I'm on Armour thyroid now and feel so much better, but still no weight loss with it. Thyroid meds usually do not help with weight loss, but once you are onthe correct medication for you and are at the right levels you will have more energy and should be able to lose with diet and exercise. Also, getting at the right thyroid levels will stop the weight gain.

On synthroid, the morning TSH should be around 1.0 to stop the weight gain. On a T4/T3 med like Armour or Thyrolar, the free t4 should be midrange and the free t3 high in range.

You may also want to be tested for insulin resistance. It's a fasting insulin and fasting glucose test. Many times the weight one gained from being hypothyroid causes the body to make too much insulin. This makes it almost impossible to lose weight even with diet and exercise. I know this as I've been through it all. I started on T4 with no relief from symptoms. I added Cytomel to T4 with a slight bit or relief. I eventually switched to Armour and got 95% relief, but still had problems losing weight. I looked into insulin resistance and found out I had it. I got put on 1500 mg of Metformin ER and I was able to lose 15 pounds with diet and exercise.

Below is a link to a thyroid weight loss group and a thyroid forum

From what I've read many people have gained weight on synthroid. I have posted a link in a forum and you can go read about it with others that share your health problem.

It is okay to be concerned with your weight and I hope someone can help you out with your questions.

I have been on synthroid for my thyroid disease for 4 years, and you are not supposed to use it for weight loss under any conditions. So instead of asking this question, maybe you should be consulting a doctor.
