Ok, here goes, from a parents perspective. Remember, this is just MY opinion.
I don't try to interfere with my daughters sense of style, however, if the clothes are too tight or reveal too much, then I step in. When you are young, you want to look good so that you can be accepted by other kids, and I respect that. I'm 35, not 95. However, what most younger girls don't seem to realize is, the boyz are paying attention too. If a girl wears clothes that reveal too much or are too tight, boyz will get the idea that a girl is easy, even though this may not be true. Their hormones are going crazy and they try to take advantage of her. With the rate of teenage pregnancy these days, I would rather interfere with my daughters sense style and make her mad at me for a few days than end up with a grandchild way before my time. Kids want to grow up too quickly and some parents allow it by letting their kids wear whatever they want so their daughter doesn't hate them, to keep the peace so to speak. Don't rush it.
As far as grunge style or any other kind of style for that matter, I do NOT have a problem with that.
Hope this helps.

OK, I am old so let's see if I can answer this one.
1. Employment. Adults worry all the time about employment.
Even when they are working.
Jobs require conservative clothing. Unless you are an entertainer.
They see teens with the loud colors and they panic "that's not appropriate for working!!" They forget that these are kids; not working, so chill out!!
2. Some fashion trends are very INSULTING to everyone, including teenagers. Face it, wearing your pants almost down to you knees, where your belt is so tight you can hardly walk, with your undies up above your beltline is just gross!!!
3. Gothic. Adults are afraid of kids who wear gothic. Think they are violent. My son wears a lot of metal and gothic. They are not violent, they just want to be left alone!! Ignorance in this one..
4. Morals. I really do not understand this one. When I was a teenager, kids wore clothing that showed a lot of skin. Now we are adults, we see kids wearing shirts that shows backs and stomachs when the kids bend over, tops with "spagetti straps,", or worse, bra straps - the world comes to an end!
What is with that? Do we all become prudes when we grow up? God help our kids when THEY grow up!!
Hope this helps.
What about adults when they get old? The converitble car, the rings on all the fingers, the necklaces, the id braclets, the white belt, white shoes, shirts that they cannot button, etc. More absurd than the kids.

1. They show too much skin.
2. They are often oversexed and send the wrong message.
3. The styles are not flattering and often not even realistic to own.
4. They are determined by adults who haven't a clue as to what is actually "wearable" by kids!
Need any more reasons?!?!
By the way, it is NOT about personal expression either. If that were the case you'd be canvassing your older sisters & brothers closets, the resale shops for vintage things that appeal to you. You'd take your working brain to the store and buy something that says "YOU" not necessarily what the merchants want you to wear or look like.... Besides can YOU really afford designer clothes? What kind of jobs do these merchants think kids have?!?!?

1. Teenagers are not being conscious of the messages sent
2. Teenage fashion of today, is only for today
3. Teenage fashion, may have elements of days gone by but with a sick twist.
4. Teenagers would rather spend tons of money on a name brand and not on the quality of the clothing.

Adults do not approve because they went through the exact same stages of fashion at our ages and when they look back they regrete it. The old photos when white Men had afro's and brown flairs! They have been there...done that! And us youngsters "have sooo much to learn about life" etc...
if they dont leave us to it we will blame them for our photo's that we look back on and say...omg u made me wear that!!
so their reasons are:
They have done it themselves.
They think they know best.
They think we are all stupid
and
they are annoyed our fashion is better than theirs back then!!!

k, they are not jealous, just worried
1. come on, admit it, a lot of the stuff is slutty. alot of the clothes are supertight or seethrough. many clothes are these tiny little things with tiny straps which they fear will break any time now
2. alot of stuff which they sell is really bad quality
3. they don't want to spend so much money on something that you won't wear the next season because it isn't in fasion
4. it's just not their style which they're used to! so they don't understand the fashion in it.

Inappropriate attire: Most adults have noticed that kids do not dress appropriate for the occassion.
Indecent: Short skirts, tight shirts, low cut tops to show off push-up cleavage, underwear hanging out... Please dress like ladies.
Offensive: Slang words, insults & disrespectful comments are offensive to a lot of people.
Cost: Popular clothes cost a lot.

I think they're concerned that at a certain point - lack of decorum leads to a breakdown in society. I mean when every gal is showing her thong and bullseye tatoo and every guy is showing his buttcrack because that's how the homies back from prison look - isn't it about time to just hang a sign that says "USA - we're just a bunch of losers"?

1. Jealousy that we're still young.
2. We ARE too free with our bodies, especially when we flaunt parts that shouldn't be seen until you are married.
3. Your clothing reflects your personality, and they are afraid that we're all promiscuous sluts with the way some of us dress.
4. They KNOW they're right, and they know we'll catch on someday and want to make sure we know that "they told you so!"

1.Overprotective of what their child wears.
2.It obviously wasn't the trend that was going on "their days"
3.Embaressed of what others will think of "Their child?" (Sadly it's true)
4.Pure Jealousy. They didn't have what we have now so they don't want you to wear it?
*They just have to get use to it. It's different than the 70's-80's
