I think it's a power thing. You're giving up power if a guy dresses like a woman. A woman who wears "mannish" clothes is moving up the power chain.

The main reason crossdressers are “looked down upon” is due to the general population’s complete ignorance about what crossdressers actually are and what crossdressing is. The situation is more complex than most would imagine since ANYONE who looks or acts differently from what society has mandated as being ‘normal’ is considered to be deviant. The public isn’t aware that it is estimated that 10% of the male population crossdresses to some extent on a regular basis. They are also unaware that of this total number, 90% of all crossdressers are totally heterosexual, and most of these hold above average jobs, are active in community improvements, and that many are in high ranking positions in all levels of government.
Additionally (and primarily due to the lack of education about the subject) crossdressers are erroneously lumped together and associated with the gay community even though they are definitely NOT gay. This makes it difficult for the average person to understand why a male (OR a female, since there ARE female crossdressers also) would have a desire to dress in the clothes and accoutrements which is opposite their birth gender. More than ever before there is scientific evidence that crossdressers are born with a predisposition to dress in a feminine manner, but this information has not been widely publicized, and until some sort of mass education is initiated to inform the public of these facts, crossdressers will always be ‘looked down upon’. For those individuals who were born this way, it's a NEED just as much as is breathing, eating, and sleeping.

Because ignorant hateful people hate just outright hate the entire LGBT community and many people in the community don't like crossdressers in general because some are irresponsible and they tend to be the ones to make the news and make a bad impression for the entire LGBT community.

Well it's just another type of people to look down upon. Don't agree with it. We should all read Dr. Seuss' The Star-Bellied Sneetches for a lesson in diversity.

I think it's hard for people to understand what it means. It's confusing. I was in a relationship with a man I loved dearly, even after he told me he liked to cross dress. It was one of the reasons we broke up. At first I thought I was ok with it, after all it didn't change my love for him at all. But sexually it got confusing. I'm used to being the girl and having the guy be attracted to that. It was like, who has the prettier dress, in other words, who's the girl in this relationship? It's hard to understand and I started to question his sexuality. He also wanted me to use a strap on on him and have me refer to his private parts as that of a womans. Problem, I'm not attracted to girls, that's why I chose a man. But it wasn't really what I got. He swears he's not gay and that he does not want to "be" a woman. I couldn't really buy that. It damaged the relationship. I think he was being as honest as he could be with me, but maybe wasn't being fully honest with himself. I still love him, but it's just too hard.

what's the matter. you should know not everyone is going to like what you do. I think people who crossdress in public are very brave to do it and if thats something that you feel that you want to do in life then you know you can't worry about other people's opinion.
