Hi
I could give you 101 reasons for this based on the info you have supplied but we can narrow it down with more info.
When you keep the car in the low gears (1st, 2nd) does it drive smoothly and just lack power, or does it jump around like a lottery winner?
Cheers
Geordie

Sounds like it's misfiring. With old cars like this the problem is 9 times out of 10 an electrical one, the other 1 being fuel supply. Check your plugs, points, leads, particularly the HT lead.
Next car you get make sure it has fuel injection & electronic ignition.

Any mechanic might provide you a concept of whats occurring purely with the help of listening to your concern. besides the fact that its many times interior the community of between 2 and 50 available issues. Mechanics do no longer constantly attempt to nickel an dime you. its extra of a delight of their activity. and with a view to genuine diagnose a controversy and get it precise the 1st time a mechanic might desire to work out the motor vehicle, hear the motor vehicle, and many times stress the motor vehicle.
