Many students find high school boring and irrelevant. Too often high schools think that all students will go to college and this is far from the truth. Only a small percentage do. Also, with today's push for teaching to the tests, there is less opportunity for teachers to offer creative, hands on lessons. I have often heard my son ask me if he will ever use what he is expected to learn and I had to honestly answer no.

There are so many reasons. Demographics, S.E.S., parental support (lack of), teenage pregnancy, some leave school to get jobs because they need to help pay bills, drugs, their parents didn't finish school, bored, some schools may not be paying attention to student needs. It is very sad... The explanation of how these factors encourage students to quit is self explanatory.

Good question!

i would say 1 factor is probably drugs..........makes them not care about their education...... another i would think is htat if they can find a summer job and they like the pay they might decide to not go back to school and make money instead. will take them a few yrs til they notice that with an education u can get a betrter paying job........another could be frustration..... i see a lot of kids struggle without help from parents it seems like.....my daughter is in 2nd grade and i find it shocking that out of 25 kids only 3 can tell u adress and phonenumber. lot of the kids don't do their homework or it is incomplete because they don't undertand it and they get no help at home, kids like that i could see dropping out at a later point

#1. Parents not being parents instead they think they have to be friends. Teens can make their own friends what they NEED are parents to guide them. Have supper around the table instead of on TV trays in different rooms. Let them talk and don't butt in . Give them advise if they ask for it. Listen to them! Grow up and be the parent. #2. Drugs, with alcohol being one of the easist and most deadly drug get. Weed and alcohol seem to be everywhere. But sadly the other more potent drugs are widely available today in big cities and small towns across America.
