R. L. Stine writes formula books, at least in the Goosebumps series. Once you know the formula, there's no surprise left in them.
Christopher Pike does not stick to a hardfast formula and I think his writing is better.

Christopher Pike.
I used to absolutely love R.L. Stine, because I knew, everytime, who it would be! But then I realized that was because everything single one of his teen horror novels are alike. They all have different problems, but it is ALWAYS going to be the person you think it least could be. Always.
Stine has so many books out, and I haven't read much Christopher Pike, but I'm betting he[Pike] has to be better.
