No we shouldn't have to apologize. The fact that the blacks are killing each other here and in africa, they should be apologizing to each other. They need to grow up, get over it and mooooove on.

We can say we're extremely sorry for our past support of slavery, proud for having turned our back on slavery and embraced an egalitarian, benevolent attitude to our minorities and the third world, and horrified that many Middle Eastern and African states maintain a slave trade today.

In short, NO.
What next, the jewish faith apologising for jesus on the cross??
Slavery was a disgusting 'trade',it made money and built empires that stand today by dehumanising black human beings but the fact that Archbishops of York and Canterbury and Tony Blair see the need to apologise for such cruelties smacks of desperation.
Would it not be more pertinent for their holineses (sic) to apologise for their appalling treatment of gay people and all the children abused by priests?
Would it not be more pertinent for the Rt Hon gentleman to apologise for the necessary slaughter in Iraq and soon, Iran?
Apologising for things that happened in long gone history solves nothing and saves nobody.
But, it stops people taking notice of what is REALLY happening infront of them. .

Whom exactly should be saying they are sorry to whom???
This is a ridiculous notion. Great Britain has every reason to be ashamed of the part it played in the slave industry, but what point is there in someone who had nothing to do with it apologising to someone who was unaffected by it?
The people who should apologise are long dead and death is an irreversible state as far as I know.
I would also like to point out that this idiotic debate only serves to allow the racists in our society to get their revolting views out in public!!

Disagree. There numerous terrible presidents pre civil conflict and positioned up civil war. i might positioned Obama interior the middle, besides the fact that in one hundred years, he would be closer to the right for the reason that of all of the equivalent rights he positioned into play, and how he stood up for the middle classification.

It's a typically PC liberal guilt trip all of this nonsense. It's history, it wasn't nice but it's past now. We'll be apologising for The Crusades and next doors cat next. Have the German's ever apologised for the world wars? If they did I didn't hear them because we were too busy saying sorry for Dresden.

If someone wants to say they're sorry for slavery then maybe they can say that they're sorry slavery ever existed but not to be sorry for their role...all slave owners are dead...all slaves are dead. Who the heck does the apologizing and who would they apologize to?
Also...who's going to thank all the families who died to free slaves? It's never ending.

Apologize for something that people of today have nothing to do with? I think NOT. And plus, people were sold from Africa, so the people agreeing to the slave trade in Africa should be blamed.

With the flood of immigrants from its former colonies packing into Britain, using up its resources, its like pay-back time. The only thing is,they should remove the "chip"from their shoulder and get on with trying to better their life.
