they are counted as 'European' in that they have a Mediterranean coastline, but usually because their neighbours hate them!

because the only other league they could play in would be the Asian league which contains Syria, Iran, Iraq etc and there would be a huge fight every time that they had a game so FIFA decided to put them into Europe as it would save a lot of hassle and possible blood shed
