In the movie Prestige, what is that wooden pyramid box for?

The wooden pyramid box that the professor gives to Huge Jackman, what is that for? Why does Huge Jackman have to move it every night after his show? Why does it have to destroy it in the end?

The wooden pyramid carries the apparatus created by Tesla--which is used in "The Teleporting Man" trick.....and which carries something rather incriminating should someone discover it.

But I'll spare the details there---only to say that it happens each night the trick is done---and the item left behind has to....be taken care of.
