I'm not just talking about the United States, but France, U.K. and Canada. There was really no slavery in the U.K. and france so that can't be blamed.
Also, slavery ended over 140 years ago, and were still not succesful, compared to other groups. The Jewish people experienced the Holocaust just 60 years ago, and look where their at now, the richest ethnic group in america.

first, i am confused as to how your question and the following statement relate to one another!
~highly populated black areas..mainly in urban/city-like communities-there is lack of money therefore causing lack of knowledge, food, health care centers and more health problems, poverty, disease, and a string of things from that. Thus, causing more people to be tougher b/c of the need to survive, the wants and desire for things one never had or lack of, and more willingness to prove the he/she has what it takes to get it...same things that everyday people do..the legit way..just flipped a bit...more crucial and extreme! You also have to remember its not just blacks!!
As to the slavery and Jews being successful...black people could do the same exact thing if we stuck together and being jealous of each other and afraid that one will have a little more than the other!!

Sure, slavery ended a long time ago, but America was an aparthied state until fairly recently. The mentality that Blacks are inferior is still alive and well in many parts of the USA, and some argue that this feeling of inferiority has been internalised by the Black community, leading to a lack of self esteem and hopelessness, which feed the problems you described above.
By the way, there was a really interesting experiment done by Jane Elliott on how prejudice can affect test scores and self esteem. This may help explain why the Black community is behind the (very white!!!) Jewish community in terms of social status.

The fact that slavery ended over a hundred years ago means nothing, as blacks were not given equal rights directly after slavery was abolished. I'm bold enough to say that even now, blacks don't have equal rights. And yes, that plays a huge part in the existence of poor black neighborhoods.
