I have been in acctng for 20 yrs and although I used to enjoy it, more for the challenge and people, I hate it now. I want to do something that really makes a difference in the world but am too old and too tierd and too broke to go back to school. Any ideas how I may be able to find a new vocation and what that may be?

Hi why not first try to hover your 2 parts--go apply to work at a non-profit who's ideas interest you.
While there, take the time to volunteer more--or even now in your own life, begin to volunteer.
See a financial planner & have them help you set yourself up financially & after you have a good "nest egg"--& a few months or years experience doing something else--then you can move & not regret it.

Hi there, i'm the same way with my job, though i've only been at it for a little over a year. It is pretty mundane though I just got a promotion and hopefully it becomes official on Tuesday (crossing fingers). But, I start volunteering at our Aquarium out here next weekend officially and I think that will make a difference and will give me something new to look forward to. Maybe you could find a volunteer organization in your area that you are interested in that could really use your help and expertise. And maybe somewhere down the line they see how valuable you are and they might ask you to join on as a regular staff member. =) You never know! Good luck with what you do!!

As you can act I would assume that you are very confident so if teaching acting isnt really for you either (freelance) then I would suggest a vocation where you need confidence such as teacher for your profession or even a complete different ball called Sales... Sales is good as you can avoid the cold calling commison jobs and look more for account management.

You are probably earning a decent salary, too, so remember, you are talking about giving up that to follow a dream and get some passion back into your career. Can you really afford such a serious pay cut or are we talking "mid life crisis.".
If it's the latter, start your own business on the side and sell stuff on the web. Find something you like doing and do it!

Make a difference in doing work for charity or joining organizations that provide help to your community. Sometimes there are work programs inside those fields

Everybody wants to make a difference. Why not accept things as they are and just get along in the world as it is.

Volunteer. You'll help more than others; you'll help yourself.
