If you have a "Media Center" laptop or computer, then plugging your computer/laptop to your TV can allow you to...
1. Record TV shows do your disk using a tuner card
2. Game on a huge screen (think 40-inch LCD, etc.)
3. Watch movies on a large screen
4. Use 1 screen for everything, so you don't need a PC monitor

Basically, a TV gives you more screen space. But a tuner card for your PC is advised if you want to record TV shows.

The main reason why I plug my laptop in the TV is so I can watch films from my laptop, and so I can listen to my music through the housr speakers.

Plus I also have a Blu-Ray player on it, so I can watch blu-ray films on the TV =D, for just a fraction of the price

personally I think it would be cool to have a tv screen going down in the corner of my pc while I am working late. Plus the resolution on my pc is better than most tv sets.

one reason you might want to hook up your laptop to a tv is because you would have a much bigger screen. to hook it up, you would need to have an s-video port on you laptop.
