Actually, neither...We as humans 'belong' to the Earth in that the earth gives us shelter, food, clothing, medicine and we cannot survive without her.
She belongs to us in that we are charged to take care of her and protect her and help her. We aren't doing a very good job of that right now, but it what we are supposed to do.
But you cannot 'own' the earth...the Native American tribes have the right sentiment regarding that...you take of Mother Earth, but you give back also...there is a balance there that needs to be kept or, else, eventually, Earth will right the balance herself...and woe to us poor humans when she does...

We belong to the Earth. We are a product of Her Being. She shares Her Mind and Spirit with us. We need to take responsibility for how our actions effect the rest of the bio-sphere. That would be the adult thing to do.

Who are we to say what? I mean, we don't own the earth nor animals. And the ones that are religious are going by a book made by humans.....
We are here to share this earth with other animals and plants etc.....we belong here but we don't own it. The earth does not belong us.

I believe that the earth belongs to God. He gave us dominion over it but expects us to take care of it. We have sadly let him down.
