OH BOY! Here we go with the JUDICIAL ACTIVISM rants! Roe vs Wade is federal precedent to forbid states from making it illegal. It doesn't have to be codified.

Thanks for trying though.

Yes (in a sense) as pro-choice equates to less government intrusion. However, the governments main charter is the health, protection, and welfare of all who reside in the country.

A human being's right to live takes priority over less government intrusion. Even with religion out of the equation, the US government is empowered to protect the innocent.

Yes.

Liberals in the United States have nothing to do with open mindedness or tolerance for other viewpoints.

Those who call themselves liberal in the United States today are constantly trying to shout down those who oppose their ideologies and force their ideas onto others.

Take Global warming for example. Liberals in the United States will insist that Global Warming is a fact when it is nothing more than a theory.

The refusal to look at data or listen to arguments that oppose their ideology proves that those who call themselves "liberal" in the United States are really neo fascists.

Addressing your specific question concerning abortion:

Conservative is made up of three Latin roots, Con meaning together, serv meaning maintain and ive meaning concerning. Conservative means "together we are concerned about maintaining" Maintaining means keep things in the same condition. Maintain does not mean change or return to the way things were.

Liberal is made from two Latin roots, liber meaning free and al meaning relating to. Contrary to popular propaganda the word in it's purest form means "relating to free", neither for or against.

Since "Liberals" in the United States want to maintain the current situation or status quo, or maintain, the current laws on abortion their view on abortion is conservative.

Since "Conservatives" in the United States want the freedom change the current situation their view on abortion is liberal.

You will see a lot of uneducated propaganda written by people who want to ignore the definitions of words or change them as it suits them.

You forget that abortion was NEVER codified in law, that it is an artifact of judicial activism. Just because it's been in place for too many years doesn't lend it legitimacy. It's STILL a violation of Common Law, and always will be.

"A lot of so-called conservatives don't know what the word means. They think I've turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. That's a decision that's up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right."

No.

Conservatives value conformity, and tradition, and support the idea that individual freedoms are secondary to the common good. So, laws that regulate personal conduct are proper, and that includes laws that mandate or forbid activity that the conservatives doesn't like.

Liberals value individuality, and are open to change, and believe that personal freedoms are more important than following what someone else wants you to believe. So, for them, the right of the individual to choose is paramount.

Fighting to change an existing law doesn't make you liberal, if you don't think the law should have been made in the first place. Conservatives want to go back to the time before personal freedoms were protected under the law, back to the time when they could dictate what people were and were not allowed to do.

I never thought about it that way. Conservatives typically stand for freedom of choice in the marketplace, but the right-wing you and I are familiar with tend to fall back on 'authoritarianisitic ' viewpoints on social issues.
