Unfortunately Child Abuse is something that has been talked about and studied for years, and every time the Psychiatrist think they have it figured out another element is thrown into the mix and it confuses them again.

I am not a professional but my opinion on this matter is it is a combination of things.

1. Drugs
2. Learned as children because they now become the abusers and not the abused.
3. Children having children
4. Children being raised in single family homes, the stress can become great at times.
5. Economics's

Child abuse is one of the most frequent of crimes, and it isn't getting any better the world has just gotten better at covering it up

It depends on the type of abuse. There isn't a parent alive that isn't guilty of some form of child abuse. Be it verbal, phsysical, emotional etc. Every child has somehow been abused. Even me, even my daughter. (I have yelled at her for stupid things). Find someone who claims their parents did everything perfectly. Then tell them they are ful of BS.
However there are some individuals (far too many in my opinion) who are abusive to children in a way that mainstream society tells us not to be. Some are aware, some are not. Parents who smoke in their car with their child present probably are not aware that they are abusing their child. You'll see them smoking in the car, most people who knowingly abuse someone else don't allow many witnesses. Teens who are babysitting and forget to change a diaper are probably not thinking too much about neglect.

But the people who intentionally harm children physically, emotionally and verbally, often were raised the same way, have a chemical imbalance in their brain or simply don't know how to get help without being ridiculed by society. How many of us have seen a child tugged by the arm, scolded with curse words, or worse and said or done nothing? It is considered to be so wrong to abuse a child, and yet noone has the courage to stand up for the defenseless. It's a shame and we will most likely not see a change to this.

sociopathology. they are not capable of feeling empathy with anything. They truly don't understand the human capacity for emotion and watching peope in emotional distress is extremely fascinating to them.

Then there's the people who were abused as children and the process by which they finally get control is some sort of catharsis.

It's all so sad and sick, isn't it?

Because their inner souls are full of ignorance and very low on self-realization or awareness. They may have been abused themselves as children. Though that's no logical way to solve their dilemma! It's extremely sad when any human being abuses another, for whatever reason! If we, each, would become more aware, as to our own intrinsic worth and value, we'd have no need to hurt or abuse others. There would only be empathy and understanding of others! It all starts at home, within one's own heart and soul! We each possess a "spiritual well" so to speak, from which emanates a source of love and well-being. But walking away from this source, and ignoring it, and focusing on the outside world as the excuse for all our problems, begins this cycle of useless blaming of others for our own lack of self-fulfillment. The "self" holds the answers we are all looking for. No need to hurt others, no need to hate or point fingers, there is truly no need! Only those ignorant of their own spirituality, will continue to act in such non-productive ways. To discover how to heal abuse, to heal your soul and access your own spiritual "well", go to www.centerpointe.com! More people need to realize, that the answer to their sorrows is "hiding in plain sight", right under their own noses, or more importantly, above their noses! It's sitting on their own shoulders! It's within your own head - your mind! You can gain access to the richness as indicated on the Centerpointe site! Go and discover! It's a start to discovering something awesome within all of us, within you yourself!

Sometimes they take out their own stress and frustration out on the kids.

Other times, they enjoy seeing him/her in pain.

And then there's the ones who don't know they're abusing them [i.e. verbal abuse].

There's a variety of reasons, but since you're asking about why they *like* to abuse children, I'd say the second one.

I think sometimes because they were. This is a disturbing subject, but I also think it gives some people a sense of power, or they have no patience either way, anyone who abuses a child should be shot

Its how they take out their anger, stress, emotional feelings of maybe a hurtful childhood. All these can lead to an abusive parent. Its how they think they keep something in control .

Some people have mental illnesses, causing them to take things out on people. Children can't defend themselves, so they hurt them. it's sad but true.

The usual: low consciousness, low self esteem, stupidity, depravity. Endemic on the planet, especially among males. :)
