The first cricket world cup, known as Prudential Cup, was held from 7th to 21st June, 1975 in England.
8 countries(Australia, England, New Zeland, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka and East Africa) participated in the event. The preliminary matches were played in 2 groups of 4 each.
Semi Finals were played between Australia versus England and West Indies versus New Zeland. Australia sand West Indies won the semi finals and entered in the final.
West Indies beat Australia by 17 runs and won the first world cup.
