I would like to know what the basic beliefs of the conservatives are. Please no liberal bashing here. If you are a conservative can you define what neo-cons are? Do you have to be a republican to be conservative? I ask this because I keep finding myself somewhere in between. People always ask if I'm a Liberal or Conservative. Is that the same difference as being asked are you a republican or a democrat?

forget the whole neo-con rubbish! As a true conservative, I am for:
1. Putting government back into the hands of local government, rather than a huge federal system.
2. strong military stance
3. fewer gov't. assisted programs to give individuals their respect back for an honest day's work. Thank you!
4. no more PC

Traditionally, conservatives are people who favor smaller government and more self-reliance. Liberals are those who think that the government should play a larger role in daily life. All the other stuff attributed to either party is baggage that has been added over the years.

This is the conservative (not liberterian) philosophy defined by me a liberal.

1) The government has absolutely no business regulating the economy or the actions of corporations.

2) The government has absolutely every right to restrict social freedoms that are in opposition to their conservative interpretation of christianity.

It is basically the same question. The republicans like to use the word "Liberal", for some reason they think it's bad for one to be liberal.
