Actually, I would recommend a small hole saw or forstner bit instead of a regular spiral drill bit, especially if it is not a wooden door. If it's a metal door, you will need carbite bits. Measure it CAREFULLY to make sure you have it right -- you don't get a second try! Put a mark on the center of the spot you want it, then use a countersink and a hammer to mark the spot. Rest the bit in the indentation and drill straight down, with a steady even pressure. The peep hole you buy should have directions on how to install it in the hole.

If you are fairly comfortable with an electric screwdriver in your hand, this job should be a piece of cake for you. If you aren't, it would be a good first DIY job, especially if the door IS wood. Even if it's steel, you still might wanna try it if you feel fairly ambitious. If you REALLY are not comfortable, you should get somebody to do it. Don't forget the door is the first thing people see when they come to see you!

You will need a drill bit slightly larger in diameter than the peep hole, and you must make sure that the peep hole fitting is long enough to go through the door, just drill a hole at eye level from the outside and push the peep hole in from the outside and secure with the nut supplied, disregard the suggestion of the hammer as this would damage the peep hole and would not be needed providing that the hole is just a little larger than the fitting,
so all you need is a drill of the right size, takes about 15 min.

You can purchase and install one. Measure the thickness of the door and go to whatever store you choose (Lowes, HD, hardware etc) and find the one that works for that thickness. If you don't have a drillbit the size required, buy on of those also. Drill the hole where you want it located and then assemble it in the hole. Most are two piece and screw together like a sandwich.

All you need to do is drill a hole through the door. Then you insert the peep hole through the hole and screw the other end on and you're done.

You need a hammer, and a drill & a peep hole kit that costs around $30-60 at any hardware store. & a rular.

Buy the kit, the kit will tell you how large a drill bit to use, you need a hammer to hammer in the peep hole thing.

Its work but its easy
