Where there was an alien that flew around in a silver looking ship shaped like a nerf football? The main character was a child that became friends with the alien. There were also many weird creatures on board the alien craft. Thats all I can remember.

Flight of the Navigator (1986)
A 12 year old boy goes missing in 1978, only to reappear once more in 1986. In the eight years that have passed, David hasn't aged. It is no coincidence that at the time David 'comes back', a flying saucer is found, entangled in electricity cables.
Total guilty pleasure for me.... a film that appeals to the kid in me.

The Flight of the Navigator. It was about two brothers. The older Brother fell into a ravine and an alien ship downloaded all of it's charts into his brain. When he woke up 12 years had passed He was the same age and his younger brother was now older than he.
Good ole Uncle Sam got in the game and it was a thrill ride from there. There was no alien in the ship, there were sample caged creatures from many worlds.
The kid spoke directly to the ship.
