I'm not sure if ballhog correctly describes him. If you want a ballhog, look at Arenas, who is a point guard and looks to shoot all the time, even if the shots are horrible. Kobe Bryant is a shooting guard, it's his job to score, not distribute the ball, and yet he does pass more than he gets credit for. The only reason his assists aren't superb are because 1. his teammates don't always make a shot and 2. he plays under the triangle offense which requires constan passing( Lakers 7th in assists), so for example Kobe may pass to Walton, who then passes to Odom, who scores. In this case, it would be Walton who gets the assist, and once again Kobe's willingness to pass would be ignored. When Kobe does score big numbers, it's because the Lakers need him to, and most of the time he takes pretty good shots because of Odom and Walton's playmaking skills.

Well, if he leads his team in assists then he is not really a ballhog. If you watch Laker games you see that Kobe is open for a drive to the hoop, or just a jump shot, but instead makes a nice pass.

No I don't think Kobe is a ballhog. When he plays well he is considered a ballhog. When he passes it a lot people say he is bad. Whatever he does, someone will find a fault. I think Kobe is great and he rocks. Watch the Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors tonight, (i think)
Oh Yeah!!!!!!

Dont start putting my man LeBrons name in this discussion about ballhogs. The last night Kobe hit 50, he had a whopping 1 assist. He doesnt even look to pass. LeBron does all the scoring because he has to, and because the game is in his hands to win. Kobe just plain doesnt pass at all.

Hell no! Kobe is averaging more than an average shooting guard should be averaging. He is doing more than enough in making his team better. They are a young team, but look what Kobe does in spite of it. There are certain situations in which Kobe hogs the ball. That is IMPERATIVE. If Kobe does not shoot, the Lakers don't win. Neverthekess, Kobe has done more than enough.
Kobe is one of the leaders in assissts in his position. He leads the league in scoring and is averaging more assists than a real point guard such as Tony Parker, Stephon Marbiry, Rafer Alston, etc. Why don't you Kobe haters call them a ball hog, instead of Kobe?

Wow, every answer came from haters...hes selfish, he doesn't get assists...*sigh* stfu with that bull@#$! AN ASSIST ISN'T HOW MANY TIMES A PLAYER PASSES THE BALL...HOLY @#$! WHY CAN'T PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT?!??! If Kobe shoots alot of course hes going to get the points, but what about Nash!? if he passes alot of course hes going to get all those assists...plus Nash has people he can pass to and they MAKE their shots! AND WHEN DO ASSISTS EVEN MATTER?? I didn't see John Stockton win any MVP's...what's up with that?!? people just hate Kobe...nothing we can do, if anyones selfish its them, they expect Kobe to do EVERYTHING and to the guy that said if he began to pass more they'd win...SHUT UP...that was a nice 7 game losing streak wasn't it?? YOU probably like them to lose, and Kobe is only following Phil's instructions, he told Kobe to shoot more!!!

Kobe is not a ball hog, hes doing his best for the Lakers to win, a 7 game losing streak was too much. Due to his desire to win, he has taken over as you can see by his 225 points put up in the past 4 games put together.

Yes, he is a ballhog. 5 assists is crap. 5 rebounds is crap. The lakers played 4 crappy teams in his scoring streak. It isnt hard to get 5 assists when you have the ball the entire game. He is shooting the ball to score and not for his team to win.

He isn't a ballhog, it's just that no one else in the team can step up and makes jump shots except for him and maybe sometimes L. Odom. If he can make shots then he should shot them. 5 assists and 5 rebounds are pretty good and are not crap because he is a guard and needs to shoot.
I like D-wade but he's hurt :(

Rebounds have nothing to do with being a ball hog or not.
Out of the top 5 scorers in the NBA, 3 average more assists per game. Of those 5, only ONE attempts more shots per game (Anthony)
So yea, he's a ball hog.
