I've heard instances of people getting married in different countries to their own and the marriage then not being legal/recognised when they return home. Why is this? Is it always the case or did they just do the wrong paperwork or something? Also, if a gay couple got married in a state/country that recognised it and then returned to one that didn't, would they still be married?

If you get married in 1 state and move to another, youre legally married there too.

Only in the country that recognized the marriage.

If it is legal to marry your sister in one country doesn't make that marriage legal in U.S.
