I've read a lot of advice on Answers concerning conucussions. Last night I got punched and kicked in the head a few times. The person attacking me was very small and weak. Today I feel a little dazed and lightheaded, and when i move my head around it makes me feel slightly dizzier. A lot of people on Yahoo! Answers say that one should go to the emergency room immediately. Can I just see my regular doctor? If I do have a concussion or confusion, how will I be treated? How do doctors usually deal with this? My understanding is that I should just refrain from sports and dangerous activity. Please be elaborate with respones, all advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Well I am assuming that you have been asleep and have awoken, which is a good thing. What you have to worry about with head injuries is, bleeding in the brain area and swelling. A CAT scan can show this. I don't know of any family doctors that have a CAT scan machine in their office. That is why you needed to go to the ER.

Chances are at this point, you will be fine. Apply an ice pack to the affected area and if you have no allergies or other medical conditions, you may take Advil every 4-6 hours for your pain.

If your condition worsens at any time, do not hesitate to go to the Emergency Department. I'm not sure how old you are, but it is advisable to refrain from any strenuous activity for at least 48 hrs, and do not drive.

Good Luck! And stop getting punched around! :)

The difference between a concussion and a contusion is the contusion means there was some bleeding inside your head. Please, get to the emergency room (even a walk in clinic) asap! A CAT scan or some kind of x-ray needs to be done to see if there has been any bleeeding. Do you have someone who could drive you there? And back home? You need to get checked over. Honest. Take care.

No advice here is considered professional, even if coming from a health care provider. Cause no one can be evaluated over the web. However, when my son had similar symptoms, they did not do a CT. They gave me a sheet that said someone should be with him for 24 hrs. To observe him for worsening confusion, frequent vomiting, visual disturbance, balance difficulties, fever, worsening headahe. I felt comfortable with those instructions. They said if he lost consciousness, or had severe symptoms, or returned with worsening symptoms, then they would do a CT. So, if no CT is needed, no trip to the ER was needed, except for reasurrance. If you have a doc, you can call his office or exchange, and they can advise you over the phone what they think is in your best interest. Feel better!

I do not know what they will do and am not a dr. but I litterally bounced my face off the cement step of a friends and did NOT go to the drs. I have not been the same since, my cheek still hurts, my memory is bad, and I have bad headaches. Just go to the ER and make sure!
