Yes in a Way it is a good thing that you feel the pain if you do not feel the pain then you have damaged the nerves in that area and you may never get the feeling back in then again.
if you feel the pain then you have only burned yourself in a second or first degree stage. if you have a first degree burn then you will have a little bit of a red mark and it will hurt.
If you have a second degree burn then you will have a lot of pain and you will have a little bit if a blister.
I hope this helps you

It all Depends on the "Degree" of the Burn---First,Second or Third---Each is a bit Worse---if you Just Sear the Flesh with no Major Damage,Nine times out of ten after the blistering is reduced and the skin is restored to Normal the nerves that gave you pain when you were burned will still be intact---BUT If You COOK THE TISSUE there is nothing to regenerate---We Are Restoring Accidentally Severed Extremities all the time now---Maybe One Day We Will Be Able to Replace COOKED-OUT Nerve Networks in Severly Burned Patients---I Hope So---Signed JEM

No pain is good.. but.. I have burned myself before.. many times .. hate when that happens. Burns from cigarettes, stoves, camp fires.. gees I think I am accident prone.. haha but.. those were all miner burns. One time ( and I am not going to get into details because of the stupidity of the accident) I happened to pick up a soldering torch, right after I shut it off, by the nozzle.... and.. to be honest, it didn't hurt.. right away... but it was a very bad burn. I do not know if the degree go lower in number with severity or higher.. but I am assuming that because I didn't feel the pain, it was a bad one, my 2 fingers were white, red and purple ( all kinds of colors) .. and no blisters... within two days, I was in ER, and they were cutting away dead skin from infection. Fingers are fine now.... but I did not feel much pain over that burn until hours later... I felt more pain over a cigarette burn than I did gripping a soldering torch... Good thing or bad thing??? The burn on my fingers, was a good thing it didn't hurt like it looked like it should have.

Well, feeling pain is never a GOOD thing. But because you can still feel the area around the burn, it means you probably got a 1st ot 2nd degree burn, which is better than getting a 3rd degree one...
No, nerve cells can't regenerate. Once they die, they die.

absoutely! there are folks with a rare condition in which they lack pain reception on the skin. they must be careful about the water temperature when they bathe. damaged nerves regenerate, but if the damage is heavy enough, the recovery could be slow or not at all.

If you burn yourself and you can't feel pain then you have destroyed your nerves resulting most likely in a 3rd degree burn.
