Yes greatly. It's not often that you hear suitable lyrics that tell a story in stead of these artists bragging about their possessions. I think it's because of some of the record companies, they just want money. Think about it for a second, some of the artists are, if you will, "controlled" by what their managers want. They tell them how to say this lyric or how to write that lyric, just so they could attract a large audience. Instead of letting the artist have control over their own music, they make them deviate from what they want to do.
But there are some artist out there who are amazing lyricists, and yet they don't get as much mainstream attention. Now, I listen to an equal amount of l mainstream and alternative hip-hop/R&B. I enjoy listening to them both, but mainstream is missing one thing: A message. Not just any message, but a GOOD one.

i individually think of it relies upon on somebody. i think of human beings tend to take what an artist is asserting in a music severe/over-bored no longer each physique and that i'm no longer which ability to declare loopy over-bored or something. Hip hop is a stunning variety, however the words on a music regularly situations have meanings to an artist, a tale. For those few moments we are listeners are taken into that tale. Than there is the tracks that no longer in basic terms tell are tale yet have valuable which ability below that's floor/a hidden message (good). those tracks tend to be picked aside. lots of Tupacs songs have been and nonetheless are. while in case you take a seat decrease back, take a good hear maximum any music maximum any artist. you will hear that music from an entire new point...

I remember NWA as a kid. It was awesome. Old school hip hop beats and raw attitude, used to piss my mum off terrible haha. Cypress Hill was all about weed, bongs and glocks, we loved it when we were tokin back in the days.
Now all this bling bling shite is killin it and made it a joke. (hence goldy lookin chain and the likes) I see 15 year old kids drivin round in supped up bmws (no lie!) with subwoofers in the back with more gold than knox.
But as in all types of music everything gets blown to extremes by commercialist companies all competing for attention. The companies are lookin for a short term, get rich schemes and in return killing the future of all music for everyone else. Thats why there is no great new movements. The companies pounce of the greatest newest thing and suck the life out of it before it has a chance to grow and develop taste and style. Corporate Vampires.

Commercialisms is to blame along with the artist.. Record labels see whats making money and if you are an artist that has something different to rap about they aren't going to sign u. It's sad but even BET won't play certain types of songs/videos because it's "too smart" for their viewers and they don't want to mess with their advertising money. Artist basically do whatever makes their record label happy so they stay signed.

I agree. If you look back at early hip hop, corporate america was not interested, and that is when some of the purest music was made. Only when the big labels noticed hip hops earning potential and jumped on board, did the music start sounding like the same old bullsh*t.

ya bob would have to say comericialisim killed it, its what gives all the people claiming to be rappers the idea that what their do is not only ok, but necessary. they think they have to rap about their cars and money to make a good rap, at the same time commericialisim confirms that because all the little kids go out and buy it. its sad

Rappers used to battle and dance to avoid violence, now it's part of the music.
