Suzy,

Have you ever read the paperwork that comes with your insurance policies in full detail? Some has to write that, and write it accurately.

If you can't read the first page without falling asleep, that should tell you something.

Think beyond the money, about what you really want to do for a living. If you are a detail-oriented person who works well under pressure, this may be a good job for you. If you hate detail and paperwork (both are part of an underwriting job), it's probably not a fit.

The trick with any job is to find one that fits the skills and attributes you have. That may mean working with others or as an individual contributor; doing more detail work or more high-level strategic stuff; following set procedures or working in a more creative and open manner; working indoors or outside; and so on. Every job has parts that aren't wonderful, but finding one that comes closest to using your best attributes gives you the best chance for success.

It does not matter what people say, you have to find out yourself, what others might find boring you could turn it into an interesting job. One more thing, even if it turned to be not the job you are looking for, you'll gain from the experience and you'll never question whether you made the right choice by not trying it.

suzy, with any job there are upsides and downsides. you should be talking to someone that been in it for awhile. think about this if there are folks doing this as a career or doing it for awhile, there is a possibility that it may be a rewarding career.
