I LOVE Mary Higgins Clark books. I think she does a really great job keeping her readers interested in her books. I was wondering if anybody knows some other authors that are just like Mary Higgins Clark. I don't want the books to be TOO scary but I do want them to have a little bit of suspense in them. Also, tell me some book titles that are also great in the suspense genre. Thank You!!

Martha Grimes is an American author who writes English murder mysteries. They're fun. The characters are so well written that I feel like I could spot them in a crowd. She has a good sense of humor.

Sue Grafton writes a series with a single female detective in a place that sounds like Santa Barbara. Her books have titles that go down the alphabet: A is for Alibi, B is for Burglar, etc.

Joan Hess has two series of mysteries. One is based on a bookstore owner who is a single mom of a teenage daughter, living in a college town in Arkansas. They're more funny than scary. Her other series features Arlie Hanks, the only cop in a small Arkansas town. This series is very, very funny as well has having a good twist in the plot.
Happy reading!

Before a friend got me hooked on Mary Higgins Clark (who I agree is AMAZING), I was addicted to Nancy Drew. They're short books that are a little predictable, but you can't beat the classics!

Try Agatha Christie
She was an amazing author with books like, "An Then There Were None" and " Murder on the Orient Express". She has a large collection of mystery novels and the two above have been made into pc games. I enjoy them I am sure you will too.

Anything by Jeffrey Deaver. His books have NEVER failed to surprise me and/or blow me away. I think you would do best to start with one of his stand along titles like "The Blue Nowhere" and then move on to his series, such as the Lincoln Rhyme?Amelia Sachs series (The Bone Collector, etc....) He is much more literary than Mary Higgins Clark, though.....so maybe not your style, but give him a try. I adore his stuff.

Generally speaking women authors do less swearing in their books, but their sex can be explicit. I like a book that is easy to get into, generally they are a quick read, and not scarey. Here is a list of a few of my favourites: Lilian Jackson Braun (the cat who books), Dorothy Cannell (her earlier work), Agatha Christie, Martha Lawrence, Sharon McCrumb, Marcia Muller,Anne Perry, Jonathon and Faye Kellerman (not the one they wrote together and with romance: Jasmine Cresswell and Catherine Coulter (she has a mystery series--I don't mean her romance genre ones)

Agatha Christie
also Arthur Conan Doyle - he wrote Sherlock Holmes, but other stuff too - some of his other short stories are pretty cool, suspenseful but not too scary ....
