I placed an ad on a website saying I was interested in a property for two people, I then had an email from a landlord who said he had some properties, there is one which I really want to take, but he said he had a policy of hiring muslim-tenants only.

Since I am Muslim and my friend isn't I wanted to know can landlords legally discriminate in this?

No, they cannot. Legislation is in place to prevent this.

He shouldn't be able to get away with this but I'm sure he will. If it was the other way around, i.e. no muslims, then it would be different.

I was shocked to see a sign in Hull the other day in a cafe saying 'No Whites'.

No! Take him to court for discrimination and hurting your poor feelings - hopefully you will get thousands out of him like they do with the non-muslims.

there are some exceptions that enable discrimination but always check with your local council if the variation is permitted, i.e. a woman's refuge can have all women, a Chinese care home can have all Chinese etc.

Yes, so long as no one complains. It's done all the time , Indian to Pakistani catholic to protestant, black to white, Palestinian to Israeli, and all in reverse, shall I go on?.

I'm sure they can if they are Muslim, but of course if it was anyone else, no, it would be classed as racist!
