They're actually more like CASH, which is why you should sign them as soon as you get them and keep the receipt in a safe place in case they're lost or stolen. You'll need that receipt to get them replaced. You sign them in one place when you get them and COUNTERsign them in another when you spend them.

Make sure you keep the separate info for your travelers checks separate and don't lose those numbers. We were on vacation, and had our travelers checks stolen . Good thing I had that info. All we had to do was call the number and they wired all new travelers checks to the nearest bank! what a relief!!

They are more like CASH. If you use one, you get change back, unlike a check. The only reason you sign your name is to prove you are you, in case your checks were stolen. If you are using traveler's checks, which I think is a good idea, make sure to get the change back.
