It kinda depends on what you want to do. I'm a big fan of Creative Zen products. I have a three year old 40Gig Zen Xtra. It still works great. I'll probably upgrade to a newer, flashier Zen product, someday, but the frumpy, Xtra just keeps working, so I don't bother. The controls are clunky, at best and the display is kind of cheap and hard to read, but those problems have been pretty much fixed on the new models.

If you don't mind the clunkiness, you can get a reconditioned Xtra from Fry's electronics for cheap, if you have one of their stores close to you. I think they go for about $120. Their new products'll run you at least twice that.

The nice thing about the Zen line is that they don't bother with DRM or any such copyright checking mumbo-jumbo. You can toss MP3s, WMA, OGGs, whatever. I have a mix of MP3 files and WMAs. I usually rip my CDs WMA because you get slightly better sound quality for a slightly smaller file size.

If you want to get your music from an online "store" you might be happier with an iPod. They're slick and small, though they have built-in complications with license checking and DRM and junk that I don't even want to have to deal with just to listen to music. They are also a bit flimsy and easy to destroy.

I don't know about the new Zune players. They look OK and the sharing feature might be cool if you want to make your MP3 player into a social device. It's never been a priority for me.

Michael:

The iPod is NOT the original MP3 player!!! iRiver and Diamond and Creative were making solid state and HD based players three years before Apple slogged onto the scene. The first players appeared around 1998, while the iPod showed up late with a note from it's mother in 2001.

Buy a M&P .forty five and a XDS or use the money for each to shop for a 1911 from Colt, Kimber or Sig however ideally Kimber. If your no longer going to take the 1911 path then move with the M&P .forty five its awesome to all in it is magnificence proper subsequent to Sig. I most effective advocate the XDS as moment so you'll transfer it up and additionally it is a best convey gun.
