Coaches must wear a suit to games because it is a rule. Just like how the players now have to wear a suit instead of normal casual clothes. This is all because of David Stern who made the rule. He probably wanted this sport to look more organized. To me this is not a pretty bad rule, at all.

it's probably an endorsement deal. they wear a certain brand of suit, and get paid by the company for doing so. basketball coaches don't make as much as football coaches, so they do a lot of little endorsement gigs for a few extra bucks.

It makes the coaching team more proffesional, plus it does get cold in the arenas, baseball coaches are in a ditch for petes stake lol asnd it gets hot like fire in there, so it's either wear shorts and a t-shirt or team uniform I guess.

I'm not sure why they wear suits but hockey also wears suits. Maybe its because they are inside.

I've been wondering the same thing. I guess since they are indoors, they have to be more formal than in baseball or football.
