Capricorn - Symbol of the Goat
As the tenth sign of the zodiac, Capricorn represents the tenth stage in the evolution of man and his place in the universe. Having gained power and control through emotions and knowledge in Scorpio and Sagittarius, Capricorn seeks control by virtue of authority. All authority is given its control by rules and regulations which civilized society accepts and with which they must comply in order to progress. For all their concern with legality or the propriety of things, Capricorns can be guilty of making or enforcing rules they themselves do not follow. Blinded by their own ambition, and obsessed with their goals, they adopt the philosophy that the end justifies the means.
Capricorns are doers. They set out to accomplish things and are determined to succeed one way or another. By nature they are executives and managers. Ambitious, pragmatic, and goal-oriented, they learn how to get things done. The mountain goat is an appropriate astrological symbol for this sign since a sure-footed, methodical climb to the top is the main goal of Capricorn individuals. They aspire to positions of power and authority, and they admire others who attain such positions. Initiative and willingness to accept responsibilities are keys to their success. Wanting to be admired and respected, they do not want to appear weak or ineffective. This false pride makes it hard for them to admit when they are wrong or to ask others for help. Though they aggressively compete for what they want with apparent sureness, they harbor inner lack of confidence which makes them defensive. Viewing insecurity and fear as weaknesses, they attempt to hide such feelings, making it hard for others to get close to them. As children they have unusual maturity. They are in a hurry to participate in the adult world and often get along better with older children and adults than with their peers.
Capricornians make of themselves, resourceful, determined managers; setting high standards for themselves and others. They strive always for honesty in their criticism of self, they respect discipline from above and demand it from those beneath them. In their methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, they persist against personal hardship, putting their families and/or their work before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. In fact when practical ability allied with the drive of ambition are required in employees to make a project succeed, Capricornians are the people to hire. They plan carefully to fulfill their ambitions (which often include becoming wealthy), they are economical without meanness, and able to achieve great results with minimum effort and expense. Because of their organizing ability they are able to work on several projects simultaneously.
The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricornians is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind.
Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a 'safe' alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic.
Saturn, planet of structure and reality, is the ruler of Capricorn, which means that Capricorns need to know and understand limits in all areas of life. Early in life they should be taught traditional values, rules and regulations, and proper thought and behavior. Even if they reject these things later, it allows them to develop and focus on specific goals. Without the structure of rules, restrictions, and values to guide them up the mountain toward their goals, they lose their way. Ambition and enthusiasm fade. Knowing the rules and regulations and the way that society is structured makes them feel they understand the reality of life. And for Capricorn, once the reality of something is understood, it is much easier to handle and manipulate. This approach makes them good builders, engineers, politicians, lawyers, and business executives. Capricorns often look older or more mature when they are young. However, when they reach middle age the reverse occurs. They seem to defy the aging process, and retain a remarkably youthful appearance well into old age.
Capricorns usually do not have a predisposition to be fat. Good dietary habits in their youth tend to stay with them as adults. Their innate spirit of competition makes them enthusiastic sportsmen. They can be so aggressively determined to win, it is difficult for them to be gracious when they lose. They make good team players as well as good team managers. Jogging, running (especially cross-country), golf, skating, hunting, wrestling, boxing, martial arts, and body-building are favorite activities. They also favor gun collecting, perhaps because guns are undeniable symbols of authority.
The Capricorn lover may seem cautious and a bit cold but can be down right naughty! Capricorns biggest problem is trusting; they always worry that a love interest will prove faithless. Capricorns respond well to domestic life because it proves stability. Once they fall in love and commit, the typical Capricorn is unlikely to jeopardize the union. They place great importance on personal happiness. To Capricorn, love is the source of all inspiration. Shy, awkward with the opposite sex, and very much private people, Capricorns are, nevertheless, deeply interested in love and are reputed to be the most capable and loyal of lovers.
The Capricorn friend is loyal, kind, caring, and often very generous to their friends. They try to prove their sincerity by showing total devotion to the friendship, because they love the stability they receive from a warm friendship. Capricorns gain something special from long-term friendships.
Capricorn colors are chocolate brown, royal and navy blue, dark green, charcoal gray, and red. Vulnerable parts of the body are the bones and joints (especially the knees), teeth, and skin. Though sensitive skin, allergies, and broken bones are their most likely complaints, worrying too much can also result in physical problems. The garnet is Capricorn's birthstone. This gemstone is believed to keep its wearers from accidents and falls. In some ancient societies garnets were worn only by royalty. Capricorn flowers include the camellia, orange blossom, carnation (red), baby's breath, and magnolia.

Capricorn is all about hard work. Capricorns work harder than everyone else, because they seriously want to get to the top and they know it takes hard work to be Number One. Capricorns see life as one big project and they take a serious approach to everything they do. They're hoping to reap huge rewards from all this hard work - namely money, power and fame. In their social life, Capricorns are fairly conservative and look down on people who act goofy all the time. When other people are messing up, Capricorns' maturity and common sense keeps them safely out of trouble.
Although they're obsessed with making it big some day, Capricorns are down-to-earth people in the sense that they're not interested in wild ideas or round-the-world dreams. They would much rather stay in and work towards achieving their ultimate goals. They can occasionally be materialistic and greedy (they just want a reward for all their hard work), but Capricorns are too serious to get really carried away. Plus, they wouldn't want to offend anyone, because Capricorns are polite and friendly at heart.

Bill, my common-law husband and I are BOTH Capricorns. One of my sons is a Capricorn and Blue Girl, one of our cat-kids is also a Capricorn. So, hopefully I can help you with your question!
We are proud people but we are also stubborn. We have a lot of inner pride and we don't like people who don't know us to see our emotions. Bill and I can cry around each other (we don't often, though) but we would die of embarrassment to show our emotions around other folks...even our parents and other family members...except our cat babies. We hold family dear and often our family members are our friends in our small circles of friends. I have only really 3 people I could count as true friends...Bill, my daughter and the Dalai Lama (I am Buddhist). We help others a lot but we don't like to accept help from others except our own. It took me almost 7 years of being with Bill before I finally accepted his help in financial matters.
We are usually great with money in our latter years. We like a solid future, a roof over our heads, good food in the refrigerator and comfortable surroundings. We usually like traditional surroundings...but sometimes we twist that. Bill and I have traditional furniture but everything is in day-glo colors like chartreuse, lime, electric blue, bright pink and purple and a bit of red.
We love good movies, good books and our loved ones around us. Bill and I love a good weekend with a few good movies, some good books, Court TV shows, our cat babies and our lovely king-sized bed for reading and other things (!!).
We are very sensual people but we have to trust and love our partners first. Capricorns I know who are of all sexual orientations often take quite a long time to know their partners before sharing their beds.
We love a solid future, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Goats who have enough money to hold them through their years as well as a roof over their heads that is paid for will be happy campers, indeed.
Hope this helps, dear goat-buddy!
