I assume since you posted this under geology you are looking for similarites and differences between convergent and divergent plate boundaries.
Both occur where tectonic plates meet
A convergent boundary occurs where 2 plates move toward each other and collide. The more dense (usually oceanic crust) plate will be subducted under the less dense plate.
A divergent boundary occurs where 2 plates are moving apart.
Both types are tectonically active and can have earthquakes and volcanoes associated although they occur for different reasons.
Divergent boundaries form rift valleys while convergent boundaries build mountain ranges.
http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/earthsysflr/plates3.html has a nice summary of each type but a search on plate boundaries will get you tons of information, probably much more than you need. Good luck!

If you are asking about convergent and divergent techtonic plate boundaries, there are alot of this similar and different. Convergent plate boundaries are techtonic plates that are pushing toward each other. often when this happens on plate is pushed upward while the other is slowly pushed ino the earth. The subduction zone is where this happens. Convergent plate bundaries form mountain ranges from the uplifting of the top plate.
A divergent plate boundary is when two techtonic plate are moving away from each other. As the plate part away from each other new rock is pushed up from the mantle and forms. Often ths is a rock called Basalt. Usually you can have these type of plate boundaries in the ocean, but the sometimes form over land.

With respect to light, CONVERGENT light would be sunlight shining on a magnigying glass , causing those rays to " CONVERGE " on one spot.
Using light again, if you shine a flash light in the dark, the light diverges, or fans out from the source of the light. I hope that explains and simplifies it.
