I am a die-hard Mets fan. If not, then who will and why?

They have as good a chance as anyone.
Glavine and Hernandez have to stay reasonably healthy and a couple of those young arms need to come through. The only thing that stopped them last year - even with the injuries to Pedro and Hernandez - was they didn't hit in the NL Championship. That happens to teams sometimes but offense shouldn't be the problem in making the playoffs.
Once there, it's a crapshoot every year.

That pitching staff will have to have 2 to 3 guys step up big time, otherwise the Mets won't have the season that most are hoping they will have.

Last year they owed their success to their great batting lineup and those guys will have to at least duplicate last years numbers to keep the Mets a float and in the race.

I doubt it. The Mets are still top 5-6 teams in the NL, but I don't see their pitching staff getting the job done. Unfortunately I think the Phillies are the team to beat in the NL this year. Then again they are the Phillies and have a habit of underachieving.

Honestly I think any of the following NL teams have a shot.

Phillies
Cardinals
Padres
Dodgers
Brewers - (Surprise team of the year)
Mets
Astros (with Clemens)

Not there yet:
Braves
D-Backs
Cubs
Rockies
Giants
Reds
Marlins
Pirates
Nationals
