once again, allow me to lace your tennis shoes young pimpin....yeah pimps are getting more exposure to mainstream America due to hip hop...but the pimp has always been a legend in the inner city!!!!....see you may be to young to know about this...but in the early 80's...(before reagan created crack)....the pimp was the man who was the most envied in the neighborhood.....he had the caddy, the finest clothes, the most plush living establishments, the most beautiful women.....this is why many white men are disgusted by the notion of pimpin....because they envy the pimp so much....in there heart of hearts they would give anything to have several women at their disposal....this is not true of all white dudes cause i have known some cool white guys....but the older white men, id say 40 or better, cant stand a pimp....now hip hop reaches into their living rooms and their children love it!!!....so now even lil whites kids want to be pimps.....but pimps have always been respected in the hood...its just more mainstream now.....and again you will not find a better answer than this one....trust me pimpin!!!

Pimps have always had respect because SEX SELLS! It has nothing to do with Hip Hop, but everything to do with corporate america!

I guess you're not all up to date on the Music Industry. Rap is dying and the industry is falling dramatically.
But Pimps are generally the Alpha males. You would not get soooo many females if you were a average guy. You can't fake Alpha status, women can sense it from a mile away.
Pimp = Alpha

sadly, yes they are. many of todays hip hop artist grew up on music and movies that glamorized the pimp and the pimp lifestyle.
