Imagine the wealth Britain would have without having to pay for their welfare benefits and all the wasted help schemes we throw their way!

Well, the American War of Independence may not have happened. It may not have made an awful difference really. What about the Greeks who were taken as slaves by the Romans. What about the Barbary pirates who captured Europeans as slaves. Do we ever hear about these. All races were at risk at being enslaved for many years and many people or all races suffered. I assume it's convenient, for those who rewrite history, to forget these facts. That is not to say that the Africans didn't suffer terribly but thery were not the only ones. There is an island in Cornwall, forget what it's called, which was regularly raided by slavers. How about that?

may as well ask how different things would be if we never had an ice age, boer war, world war etc.
unfortunately, things did happen in the past, the slave trade also worked in reverse although you do not hear about it, whites were taken as slaves as well from the UK...north african ships turned up quite regularly and african tribes would raid each other and take slaves.
yet all we hear about is the black slave trade and now we are supposedly offering payments to descendants....well, i would like to be the first to make a claim against the romans and the scandanavians for invading my homelands hundreds of years ago and making us all slaves in our own country....i think a nice round million pounds would appease me.
if we were all to worry over the past, the future will never happen....be pleased that the ignorance that once ruled our heads is mostly gone now.

Yes, you have made a very good point, but it does not excuse the people that caused so much pain and suffering. I just do not believe that 200 years later that their decendents are still suffering!! What they suffer from and have suffered is the racism of many people. People should mix more and get to know each other and then it would not exist.

well the tobacco and cotton trades wouldn't be as big for one thing! and the civil rights movement in the US wouldnt have happened (there having been no slaves brought from Africa to create an African-American population).
ANd so if there was never a US black population...we can count out rap music, and many of the USA's top sports stars, and probably basketball as a whole lol!oh...and no Eddie Murphy, Sammy Davis Jr, Soul music or Rock n Roll as we know it!!

Interesting point there, I'd say that there would be different hero's in our time though so even though some would never have been a lot more would have taken their place. So we can never know if it would've been better or not you never know it could have ended the world with a war of some kind?

I like this question. I think that if the slave trade never happened, then I think that people would have more respect and tolerance for one an others. I think that the West probably wouldn't be as developed as it is now, and more importantly i think that Africa would be treated as near enough equals in the trade market.
I think that the only down side is that their wouldn't be any Black West Indians, and their history and tradition is rich and beautiful. But then as Africans I think that they would have been more happy, then being put on a shipped to an unknown land!!!

The Africans would be living in the stone age, and this country would be a small independent country with no immigrants. Whether any of that is good or bad , I do not know.

the world would be very different..probably a hundred years backwards in stuff like technology. However, there would be a LOT less fighting over racism etc etc...so there is the good and the 'not-so-good' too.

America probably would have never gotten off it's feet. Most of the farming techniques that made America suitable for further colonization came from slaves, not to mention the sheer raw labor.
