A Serious Question: What if Aliens came to earth?

Question

So, your sitting in your couch watching some football, when the news interrupts the game saying that large silver ships are hovering over our major cities in the world.

1) How would you react?

2) For what reason do you think aliens would come here for? Do you think they would come here to help us, or kill us?

3) Would you welcome them?

Please take these question seriously, especially the second, think very hard when answering that question.

Well, for me #1 and #3 are pretty much the same. I would asume they were here with peacful intentions--and think how much we coultd learn from them!

They would not be here to harm us--almost certainly (not that theere's a thing we could do about it if they did). That's not wishful thinking. They wouldn't need anything we have--a star-travelling race will have access to space resources (and we already know those far excceed what a single planet has available). And, given the power implied by a technology that can ccross interstellar space--they will have learned peace or destroyed themsleves.

I thinnk they would--if they revealed themselves at this stage of our development--be here to warn us to clean up our act--before we destroy ourselves.

CONTACT with ETI; I just hope I'm alive to witness it. And I think that the movie of the same name is pretty much dead nuts on.

I'm not totally positive that we are "bound to make contact". But I think that we will detect... something, perhaps not directed radio signals, more likely leakage; perhaps Dyson Spheres or some other astro-engineering on a colossal scale (moving stars and clusters, etc).

The theory is that contact (lets say, an unquestionable intelligent stray radio signal detection) will rock our world for a while, months, and then fade away because it will take decades to decipher, but the long term effects (100 years) will overturn our civilization, especially when we figure out what they are gabbing about and can mainline the Encyclopedia Galactica, because they will be millions of years ahead of us, that's just the odds. Strong religions that can accept the new reality will thrive, sprituality will thrive.

2)they would probably kill us and it that doesn't happen, they might take some humans aboard thier ship to take them into custody especialy if its a major city like Hollywood I wonder how the celebs will react?
3)No. I get freaked out just by the look of them I would DIE rather than encounter an alien. THEY ARE FREAKY!!!!

Well....1) i would probably freak out.definitely.
2) i)hmm...aliens would probably come here to conquer earth for its minerals..(diamonds, gold etc.) which on their planets would be very valuable..more valuable than they are to the perspective of the people on earth.
ii)They would also come here to warn us about a meteor that is about to strike earth or something like that.
iii)They probably come here after they discover something that travels as fast as light, with intentions of sharing it with earth people when they find out that we have been trying to figure that out that(pity), through their high tech space probes.(which would be thousands and thousands times better than ours.)
iv)They would probably come here just for the fun of coming here like we go to the moon. Only difference being that there are no lifeforms on the moon.
v)They would come here because they would be curious about us, just as we are about them and they would come here to find unanswered questions.
a) I don't think its possible that aliens would get to earth though, considering how far they are from us(we are speaking light years)
b) Plus i don't think that there are any lifeforms on other planets in the universe.yet
3) i would welcome them if they come in "PEACE" and if they are pretty...lol
