Unfortunately I was terminated from my job. While there were several circumstances, I think it because I told my boss that I felt I was being treated differently than my co-workers. The next day I was terminated. The boss alleged there had been mis-conduct on my part, in reality it was retaliation. I applied for another job and even received an offer...I accepted the offer...but when the company did a background check they called my former employer found out I was terminated and not eligible for rehire. This was news to me as I did not know I was not eligible for rehire. I did not sign a release form for my former employer to discuss additional information about me - so I was surprised they said that. The company ended up taking their offer back. I immediately called my previous employer to clear things up. Going forward what do I say in interviews? What do I put on application forms when they ask: Reason for leaving? Please advise.

Called employer and they are saying they can only verifty term on employment and will not comment as to why I "left" the firm. What are your thoughts about that?

That depends on what happened exactly when you said you called your previous employer to "clear things up".
Put down "job ended". It is technically true, the recruiter may assume that you were laid off, and that won't stop you from getting in the door for the interview. Once there, say that you had concerns about your previous work envrionment that were not addressed; then change the subject to what you can contribute to the next employer.
However, if your previous employer and you worked something out when you called them to clear things up, then perhaps you can say something to the effect of "a mutual decision and agreement that there was misalignment between my own career goals and the direction my employer was taking".

I f u r honest... that`s difficult 2 get job again.
So u have 2 cook some believable reasons....
And before that, U have 2 request u r previous company 2 give +ve feedback, if any enquiry comes.

Good Luck

In NY, I don't believe it's legal to discuss anything about a previous employer besides the date you were hired and fired. I would say you left for personal reasons. If you need help creating a new resume, please visit TopNotchResume.com!
