Has anyone seen a male ObGyn in the past? Was it a comfortable experience? I will have an annual check-up next week. I am a little nervous. Thanks all.

Actually I always go to a male Dr. I have endometriosis and went to a female Dr. I told her about severe cramps etc, and she looked at me and said, "we all get cramps honey". I have gone to male Dr's since. I'm 33 with 3 kids. It's never been uncomfortable since there is a female nurse in the room with you as well (if he tries to start the exam before she gets there ask him kindly to wait and he will). Most men Dr's know that a woman is going to be weird at first and they try to be as comforting as possible. Most of them will follow your lead. If you are a chatter during the exam, they will probably be as well.

One thing to remember, no matter if it's a woman or a man, they have all seen what you have before so it's no big deal to them. Oh yeah, and make sure your feet don't smell...MOST Gyne's (male and female) complain the most about stinky feet. If you can imagine.

Good luck.

my first obgyn was a male....and he was old...i was nervous becuase i didnt not want a male but surpisingly when you actully get in there you are not as nervous...he had an assistant who was female..so that made it a little better...if you dont want a male all you have to do is ask for a female....if they dont have a female try finding a place with a female..possibly planned parenthood! good luck!!!!

Yes I've seen one before. He was quite well mannered and answered my questions.

If you've never seen one before then make sure there is a female nurse present in the room when you have any checks done. Make sure he washes his hands too!!

Don't be scared, they aren't any different than a female. It's their job and they are paid to do it. Yes, you may feel uncomfortable but try to stay calm. He isn't going to hurt you or try to get with you or anything, lol! So don't sweat it.
