Yes it is!!! I want everyone to know what a joke, scam and unethical bunch of pigs these people are! You will get a letter saying how great your poem is and you can get it published for only $49.95, the cost of the book they want you to buy. If you don't pay, your poem WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED, and your poem will most likely only show up in the book that you buy. You will NOT get mass exposure and you will NOT be discovered! They use people and prey upon people's dreams. They are scum and it's too bad the can't be shut down.

I think you misunderstand the intent. Poetry.com is a self-publishing company, not a literary agency or a publicist. They only print what you tell them to; they do not market it. If you want to be marketed, you need an agent who would sell your work to a publisher, who, in turn, would mass-market it...

Yes, it is a scam. I spent at least $70 to get my poem printed in THEIR book in '04/'05(you don't get paid) and I have yet to get mass exposure for having my poem in it(first poem)! Plus, I cannot find the title of the book "Tracing The Infinite" ONLINE!!!!--Amazon.com, Overstock.com...etc.

I totally agree. I got scammed by them as well. They sent me the letter saying my poem had been chosen over thousands of others to be published in this book and you can buy it for ONLY 50 DOLLARS!!! I thought that was awesome and my grandmother bought it for me. Then one of my good friends told me that her poetry was chosen too. But I couldn't find hers in my book and she couldn't find mine in her book. As a matter of fact; when we looked at both of our books at the same time; our poems were in the same exact spot.
THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE FOR THEIR MONEY; DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!!

It's just a new (internet) slant on the old idea of 'vanity publishing'. Anyone with any sense should know if they have talent or not. Sounds like you got stung, hard luck, put it down to experience.
