The molecular size of a polymer helps to determine the mechanical properties of the plastic material that is produced. The structure can be simple ethane (as used to make polyethylene) to more complex methyl methacrylate (perspex). The uses are numerous any plastic you can think of basically. The properties are that it can produced into many different forms, is ductile, elastic, a good insulator, non-corrosive, can be easily formed by moulding, rolling extruding all at relatively low temperatures. Thermo setting plastic can also be recycled and reformed.
