99% of the country agree with you! The problem we have is that the 1% are in charge.

It is ridiculous for this reason: the slave trade in Africa had been going on for centuries before Britain and the USA entered it, and it continued until fairly recently. If an apology is needed, the Arab states actually are far more guilty of the crime than the Europeans, since they ran the slave trade during its existence. But don't hold your breath waiting- slave trading still goes on in some arab countries even though it is illegal. Tony Blair is just keeping the liberals happy by taking blame for it.

Apologies are "regret" as he put it never hurt anyone.

As it seems that we often act according to the prerequisite and the tone that has been sent by our ancestors.

As a visible minority it is obvious that my "motherland" is Africa.
Most people care not that my family has been in North America for over 12 generations, as a result I have often been treated like a second class citizen and an outsider.

As a child I was called the "N" word and told to go back to Africa by peoples whose families had just gotten off the boat.

Those of you who can hide behind your race and carry yourself with an arrogance that has you often believing that you belong to a better class of people are the legacy of what your ancestors started.

If blacks were treated equally, if segregation, racism and discrimination were not carried out in this day and age then there would be no need for this dialog.

Yes it was the plight of our ancestors, both yours and mine.

The actions of more then I care to count still carry on the beliefs of their 18th century ancestors.

Walk a mile in my shoes and then tell me apologies are not due.

The difference between former white slaves and black slaves is simply skin color.
My black ancestry is a bit more obvious then yours.

The term visible minority exists for a reason.

I can not hide my race, whites can, unless they say they come from slave stock no one would know.

This is just abother way the negro keeps up the and plays up the race card.

Only guilty white libbers are suckers to this ploy.

Why can't they just get over it???? You ask? Because it is VERY profitable to fan the flames and keep the fire alive.

Without the race card to play, most of the REALLY racist Negro "Leaders" would have to get a REAL job. Since most only have "honorary" degrees they would be GREAT used car sales neaderthals.

And most of the stupid Negros who follow them ARE truly sheep, most cannot read or write past a 8th grade level so they are easily brainwashed. Look at the Jonestown mass suicide, or kill each other in mass (see Crips and Bloods).

How about some of those African countries apologizing? They were the ones who tracked, trapped, transported them from the jungle and sold them to the West.

Has Egypt ever apologized to Jews for keeping them in bondage for a thousand years?

Blair is a big ole puss! Where is Margaret Thatcher? She was the last good leader in Europe.

My child is a direct descendent of slaves like his great grandparents, and he and I are both offended that the slave owner has his picture up in a museum and yet it doesn't mention about him being a slave owner. The slaves were given the slave owners names and so my son may never find out what his real name was, but that is offensive and even today people should not do stuff like that and they should indeed apologize for it.

Slavery has unfortunately been a part of human history since the beginning. White slavery is still prominent as is slavery of warring factions in Africa.
My question is would the current descendants of slaves now living in the U.S. be better off if their forefathers never left Africa?

Apologies never hurt anyone. Ignoring the obvious does. No one alive today ever (legally) owned a slave in the US and are not to blame for what happened.

It is appropriate for the head of state to apologize for the wrong doing of the state as an institution.

Slave descendants need to also acknowledge the sacrifices of Union soldiers, abolitionist, and civil rights activists.

When did he apologize?? Missed it.

First of all, He has the right to feel sorry if he wants to. Second of all; Most people still will Recive prejudices in their life. I think America as a people should apoligize because they diserve it and we should feel sorry too!!!

By the way the slavery of white women; That was in another country, not in America.

He could apologize to the Kurds the british poison gassed in 1918?

Or he could apologize to me for sending my family to America in Chains in the 17th Century. Half didn't make the first winter.

I have no use for the Brits.

Blair didn't apologise, he issued a 'statement of regret'. And even that was issued generally, not to black people as you seem to think. This is not 'PC gone mad' or any of your other tabloid trigger words - this is simply our current PM showing some long-overdue contrition for the appalling actions of our nation.

And for everyone saying "why should we apologise for what happened 200 years ago?" - so because we didn't apologise at the time, it's now all ok? The fact that in 200 years we've still not issued a formal apology is appalling, and the longer it goes on the more imperative an apology becomes.
