- It has a thriving IT industry.
- It has recently become a lot more popular as a tourist destination - being featured on various tourist shows and was the 2006 destination of the year according to the 'Lonely Planet Guide'.
- It's agricultural products/exports and natural reasources - bananas, pinapples, oolong tea, sea-food, marble...
- It's educational system (although it's far from perfect, many students are able to speak at least 3 languages - English included).
- Work ethic - I know many Taiwanese who work over time (unpaid), they even work over the weekends sometime!

All the people who work hard here, and who try to do a good job in spite of bad political and business leaders not giving them the freedom to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

people work hard and study hard. and Taiwan's got excellent ports. and because it's near to china, many merchants in there are from taiwan, and they bring back home money.

the entertainment business. they got a name in chinese music albums and idolized drama series. fans followed and got interested in knowing the country that produced such fine breeds in music and acting talents, i mean, it is part of the reason.
