Thomas Jefferson thought so, and tried to press through a law which obliged the federal government to pay off the National Debt at least every 19 years, and to make government fiscally responsible, would absolve citizens and their descendents from paying.
The Hamilton administration, backers of Big Banking, dissed him.

Any deficit spending is a tax shift. We've been running a deficit for decades, which means our parents are paying for their parents' deficits. Deficit spending works if spending at a deficit today spurs on growth in the future, in the same way that borrowing for an investment today pays off if the return on the investment is greater than the interest rate.

The meaning of the neo conservative is immoral. Borrowing money should be done only during emergencies. As being the rich jackass he is he will just get money at will.

Okay, the midterms are over. Liberals can get off the deficit hypocrisy and resume their out of control spending.
As long as the left is calling for socialism, and the right to terminate our future generations for their immediate gratification, they have no moral leg to stand on.

fiscal responsibility is not a big issue in american politics is that proof that democracy works? Since 20% of ARM's are defaulting it proves that a significant percentage of americans as individuals are fiscally incompetent so why should the government be?
