Like for example a shy person acting as if it were not shy or someone that gets angry fast pretending his the most calm person in the world. Will they eventually become the type of people they want to or will it always be an act?

When people hang out with their peers and friends, their friends action's can start to effect you changing you in the process. Which is why we say "Someone rubbed off on you." In the very same process we can pretend to be very nice people, but be monsters on the inside, and slowly they'll change to be very good friends you can get to know.

A quote springs to mind;
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” - Aristotle

I strongly believe that through visualisation and belief, that either a true or feigned paticular action is a powerful tool. Both negatively and positively - what you constantly practise, you become; to the point where conscious actions, in reality, become a natural habit.

If a person "pretends" to be someone else they might be able to become accostumed to certain behaviors. However, if the person seeks to activly establish certian behaviors they need to consioulsy make and effort to become, for example, a more outgoing or calmer person.

Even though you may habituate yourself to different behaviors you need to consioulsy make a decision to be "someone else". You won't become someone else by merely "pretending".

If you have a more specifc question (i.e. How to become more outgoing or how to become a calmer person you should look into behavior modification techniques).

Take care, and success!
