As you can see by some of the answers here, it is horribly misrepresented. A VERY SMALL number of TS patients ever display coprolalia (cussing) and it is not a requirement for a diagnosis.

However, this one symptom has been sensationalized to the point of redicule. It casts an unearned stigma on all the other patients who just have a few tics or vocal tremors. It has made life very difficult for some.

Here is what I think: I am shocked and amazed at the amount of outright garbage that people are willing to tolerate in the name of political correctness and "progressive" attitudes, yet when they see a person who is just a little bit different, be it Tourettes or some other affliction that makes them stand out, they are laughed at and made fun of and cast off. Shameful attitudes.

My daughter has a friend at school who has it. He is a really cute kid (the girls go nuts over him) with a really fun personality. His Tourette's is mild and well controlled with medication. The first time I met him, I didn't know he had Tourettes and I just thought he was a little odd in a fun sort of way. I like him. I know the disease can be very debiliating for some.

I have had very little input on it, from what I hear, it is a disease that would be very difficult to have. If you know someone has that, you can feel sympathy.

It is a very sad affliction and its victims suffer terribly, with shame (from cussing and moving uncontrollably), , embarrassment (from cussing and moving uncontrollably), and pain(head banging, biting the lips, etc.).....
