my XR2i has rust around the the chassis stamp (under the carpet by drivers door) the numbers are getting a little illegible, if it rots through what can i do?

i can weld over the chassis stamp can i? that would make it a potential ringer?

and no, im not gonna scrap it.

i own a shop,and id weld over it ,this wont hurt it, it doesn't really have to have all the numbers it does,as long as they can see the man Vin it will be fine,good luck i hope this helps.

Do you not have a VIN stamp on the left front of the dashboard? Before welding or altering the area, I would write down the number, in case you need it at a later time. You may want to call the State Patrol in your area, they should be able to tell you if it would be illegal to weld over the area or not.

use 13mm punches to transfer number to a strip of alloy long enough to accomadate vin No, say 25mm wide and pot rivet it to the floor after you've repaired it. duck oil or finnigans wax oil inhibits rust.
