A 'verb' is a word that usually denotes an action, an occurrence or a state of being. It is an important part of a sentence. Sentences usually follow this syntax: Subject + verb + object.
In the English language 'verbs' have tenses and may vary in person and number. There are auxiliary, modal and main verbs.
Auxiliary verbs are used to help main verbs in various tenses. They are: be, have, do. (In some cases they are used as main verbs, though.)
Modal verbs (can, may, must, could, etc.) have certain meanings and are used in particular occasions.
