I don't use a line but if I did, I would arrange it alphabetically.

It's still best to sort light and dark colors, then wash them separately in cold or warm water, according to the garment tags. Many things that say Dry Clean Only, aside from velvet, can be carefully laundered in cold water. It also helps if you have a washer with many settings, such as hand wash, delicate, wool, etc. I always use Color Catchers (Shout official brand, but there are other names by Carbona and other companies), which are either multi-use cloths or single-use sheets. I've seldom had any trouble with that method. If you suspect a new garment of being prone to run, put it in a small load with other clothes the same color/hue, along with a Color Catcher. Always use mild detergents without parabens, SLS, etc. When I wash gauze garments, I separate carefully by color, then add white vinegar in the prewash slot.

Oh dear, I must be very sad .
I use two pegs of the same colour for each item.
I have to pair the socks up (but that is really just to make sure I haven't lost one in a sleeve or left it in the machine)
I always hang the undies on the inside of my rotary dryer (out of sight of the window cleaner or anyone else)
I really must get out more lol.

No problem as most of my stuff is colour co-ordinated anyway, except for my t-shirts, they have to be hung in a certain order so they don't clash.
