The only people who follow the bible don't hate or promote hate at all. Unfortunately, those people are few and far between.

I think that people tend to pick and choose what they retain when reading religious texts. That's why you get so many factions of each type of faith, some hating the other so much as to justify killing them.
There are many people who are gay and Christian and many denominations are open to gay fellowship. Many of the most fervent anti-gay leaders are simply preying on people's fears to gain more power (ala Mark Haggerty).
The key to your question is why do we dogmatically follow a book written 2000 years ago in the first place. Obviously because we think it has some value for us. But why the Bible? Why not the Dhammapada which the Buddhist follow? (2500 years old).
The sad fact is that most people do not extend their search for truth beyond what their parents or society tell them. This causes stupid ideas to propagate through time and is probably the core reason we still have poverty and wars in the world. The solution is to promote free thinking and creativity within the religious world, which is of course heretical and sinful in almost any faith! In extreme cases this is punishable by death but even moderate religions will expel/shun/excommunicate people who question the core beliefs.
Ultimately though backward ideas do get weeded out by rationality. Humankind will eventually overcome our fear of new ideas and these new found freedoms will help us end the violence and hatred so prevalent today. However I don't think it will happen without a significant change in the paradigm of the major religions of the world, from exclusion of new ideas to inclusion.

The Bible does not condemn homosexuality, nor does it say anything about hating gay people. People misinterpret and get confused when they read various verses. Many of these verses are condemning lustful acts, or other sins, not homosexuality. The problem is that they take verses out of context, just so they can prove a point. Interpreting the Bible is very difficult, and if these people think they know the true meaning of what they are reading, they are sadly mistaken.

Christians are taught to Love the sinner, and Hate the sin. The Bible doesn't say to hate Gays.
The theory is that the Bible is God's word, and that God is eternal and unchanging. If something was wrong in Gods eyes 3 thousand years ago, its still wrong now, and it will still be wrong 3 thousand years from now.
The only problem is that God didn't write the Bible, humans did.

Those who follow the Bible's instructions believe that they are following God's word, and that it is still very applicable to today's society.
Yes, of course, they are picking and choosing which of God's words they follow. Modern women don't go spend a week at the temple while menstruating. Most modern Jews don't follow the kosher dietary laws. etc etc etc.

I'm not sure the bible says we should hate guys. I think the quote they generally refer to is the one that says that a man and a man shoulden't lie down together...
But, it's a very commonly misintrepreted quote. And quite honestly, why should we condemn people for their sexual prefences? It's not a choice, plain and simple. America has made such a big deal about homosexuality and look how long it's been around...

I personally don't think the bible has any relevance to anything...I also don't believe that it says anything about hating gays...you can find just as many quotes in it supporting gays as opposing them.

For some straaaange reason, these morons think the bible is telling them to hate or even 'cure' gay people and try to run everyone's lives and judge and kill in the name of GOD. (??) Boy, I'd love to see them explain THAT on their judgment day! Lots of christians select biblical verses they like and put aside those they choose to ignore.
Homosexuality is by NATURE. It's not wrong or an illness, but ignorance IS.

I don't follow it at all. I could care less what the Bible has to say about anything, it is not my religion and has no relevance to me at all.

I think you should read the bible before you say that it says "we" should hate gays.
Or condemn it as irrelevant.
In fact, if you'd read the bible, you'd see that it says "we" should not hate anybody. Quite the opposite.
I'm a Christian, and I don't hate, condemn or judge gay people.
Please don't include me in your "we". Thankyou.
